PhonePe starts transaction fees charging on recharge 100

PhonePe is currently experimenting with paying a fee of up to Rs 2 for mobile recharges above Rs 50.

Important Update

  • For recharges between Rs. 50 and Rs. 100, PhonePe customers will be charged Rs. 1.
  • Users will be charged Rs. 2 on recharges above Rs. 100.
  • PhonePe will start charging service fees (transaction fees) for credit card payments.

PhonePe, a digital payments startup owned by Walmart, has started charging transaction fees on certain transactions, including UPI. In September, the business logged over 165 crore UPI transactions on its network.

1 Rs 1 will be charged on mobile recharge between Rs. 50 and Rs. 100.
2 For mobile recharge more than Rs. 100, only Rs 2 will be charged.

 

The company is the first to charge for UPI-based transactions. This service is provided free of cost by its competitors. On mobile recharges above Rs. 50, the digital payment app has begun charging processing fees ranging from Rs. 1 to Rs. 2 per transaction. Users of PhonePe will be charged Rs. 1 for recharges between Rs. 50 and Rs. 100, and Rs. 2 for recharges moreĀ than Rs. 100.

In a statement, PhonePe said, “On recharges, we are running a very small-scale experiment where a few users are paying for mobile recharges.” Recharges of less than Rs. 50 are not charged, recharges of between Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 are charged Rs. 1, and recharges of more than Rs. 100 are charged Rs. 2. Essentially, the most of users are either not paying anything or paying Re 1 as part of the trial.”
